Interview with Tibor Alföldi, an excellent sportsman and journalist
Tibor Alföldi, our ambassador and a member of Kilpi team, former athlete, decathlete, now is an active amateur sportsman (athletics, swimming, cycling, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, etc.) and a member of the Club of Sports Journalists of the Czech Republic. Since 2017 he acts as a head of press office of the Czech Olympic Committee.
What interesting races did you attend last year? What are you looking forward to this year?
This winter season I had, thanks to Kilpi, opportunity to attend the second longest ski race in the world - Schlag das Ass at Nassfeld in Austria. After last year's experience, I already have known what I was getting into, but once again it surprised me. Due to poor snow conditions, we rode two ski slopes less last year and therefore the race was about 10 minutes longer this time. However, a little preparation and the right skis brought partial success: I finished in the 89th place and became the best Czech racer. Competing against the top Austrian racers and about six hundred participants I take it as a positive result. But with hindsight, I think, I was too cautious, and it could be even better ... Anyway, the feeling at the finish, when you have two concrete pillars instead of legs, is priceless.
What clothes from the new collection do you the most wear? And what do you want to recommend them to customers?
I often wear Svalbard down jacket in the mountains and in the city. It has two functional layers and keeps warm in sub-zero temperatures, which in this winter season prevail. It was a surprise for me because this jacket is very light and thin.
What do you like this particular clothing? How much do you use its different useful features?
I often use Baffin-M running jacket. I had it only on skis but for me, but it's a product of the year. In his back part and arms is elastic and has a very good ventilation. It has a feather in the front part, so keeps your heart and lungs in the heat. It is a great combination for active cross-country skiing. I've used it at skate skiing at temperatures around zero and in minus ten degrees and I felt completely comfortable every time.
Have you tried the Kilpi clothes in some extreme conditions?
Hurricane jacket is from last year's collection, but for me it is the best thing I've ever had from Kilpi. Light, airy, yet waterproof and windproof (I tested it in heavy snowfall and a gale during a winter ascent of the Austrian Wildspitze). It is usable both for ski touring in winter and for biking in summer bike in case of rain. Packable, lightweight. Cool.
When or where did Kilpi clothes pleasantly surprise or help you?
Stretch pants Karang-M proved to be useful at cross-country running and classic cross-country skiing in winter. They have in the front part wind resistant liner and perfectly hold temperature. But you must move. If you stop after a while your feet are cold, especially in sub-zero temperatures. They are therefore designed for active sportsmen.
What are you the most appreciative of Kilpi compared to competing brands?
I appreciate the color and design combinations. Kilpi products meet the demanding requirements for active sportsmen, and many companies do the same. But for me, Kilpi products have a nice design with amazing pastel colors, and fine accessories.
Do you have any special experience or a story from last time?
I have many experiences from the mountains and nature trips, it would be a longer talk over a beer. However, from most of their friends I listen to captious remarks like: Ah, Mr. Kilpi has arrived. That to me it is proof that Kilpi clothes can attract. And it also captivated my children. Both have Jackyl-JB and Titan-JB jackets and Daryl-JB pants and swear by them. What's more, they walk in them only in the mountains, they do not put on this clothing into a city not to get it dirty.
